Renormalization Group Derivation of the Localization Length Exponent in the Integer Quantum Hall Effect

چکیده
We compute, neglecting possible effects of subleading irrelevant couplings, the localization length exponent in the integer quantum Hall effect, for the case of white noise random potentials. The result obtained is ν = 2 for all Landau levels. Our approach consists in a renormalization group transformation of Landau orbitals, which iterates the generating functional of Green’s functions for the localization problem. The value of ν is obtained from the asymptotic form of the renormalization group mapping. The basic assumptions in our derivation are the existence of a scaling law for the localization length and the absence of Landau level mixing.

Real-space renormalization-group approach to the integer quantum Hall effect
We review recent results based on an application of the real-space renormalization group (RG) approach to a network model for the integer quantum Hall (QH) transition. We demonstrate that this RG approach reproduces the critical distribution of the power transmission coefficients, i.e., two-terminal conductances, Pc(G), with very high accuracy. The RG flow of P (G) at energies away from the tra...

We investigate dynamical scaling properties in the integer quantum Hall effect for non-interacting electrons at zero temperature, by means of the frequency-induced peak broadening of the dissipative longitudinal conductivity σ xx (ω). This quantity is calculated numerically in the lowest Landau level for various values of the Fermi energy E, of the frequency ω, and of the system size L. Data fo...
متن کاملShort-range interactions and scaling near integer quantum Hall transitions
We study the influence of short-range electron-electron interactions on scaling behavior near the integer quantum Hall plateau transitions. Short-range interactions are known to be irrelevant at the renormalization group fixed point which represents the transition in the noninteracting system. We find, nevertheless, that transport properties change discontinuously when interactions are introduc...

In this paper we study the integer quantum Hall effect (IQHE) on the systems with different types of impurities in delta and gaussian forms. The Landau energy levels in the presence of impurity split in two different levels, the extended and localized levels, emerging then the Hall step. Finally, we add a specified form of a quantum dot potential to a system with impurity, and observed that incr...
متن کاملScaling properties of conductance at integer quantum Hall plateau transitions
We investigate the scaling properties of zero-temperature conductances at integer quantum Hall plateau transitions in the lowest Landau band of a two-dimensional tight-binding model. Scaling is obeyed for all energy and system sizes with critical exponent n' 7 3 . The arithmetic average of the conductance at the localization-delocalization critical point is found to be ^G&c50.506e /h , in agree...
